A middle-aged man is fighting for his life at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital after his legs were run over by a train at Section 58 in Nakuru Town early Wednesday.

Nakuru Railways OCPD, Said Shungi, said the victim, believed to be a street urchin, was sleeping near a railway line with his lower limbs resting on the path, when a Nairobi-bound train ran over his legs at around 8am.

“Our officers arrived at the scene and quickly took the victim to the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital, where he remains unconscious,” said Shungi.

“We are yet to establish his identity, given he had no single document on him that reveals who he is,” said the OCPD, adding: “However, we highly suspect that he is a street child.”

Witnesses suspect that the victim was under influence of drugs that resulted in him not hearing the train approaching.

“We only heard the man yelping after the incident,” said a witness, who spoke in confidence.

Police say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s decision to risk his life on the railroad.
