A 33-year-old man and his female cousin, who is in her late twenties, are recuperating at the Naivasha Sub-County Referral Hospital after a failed a murder-suicide attempt.

The man stabbed his cousin -- whom he was dating -- multiple times on Wednesday, when he learnt that she had gotten into an intimate relationship with another man.

The incident happened at the victim’s house in Kinangop, Nyandarua County.

Convinced that he had killed his kin-cum-lover, the suspect turned the knife on himself and drove it in his abdomen.

It is alleged that the two have been dating for several years now, and that their relationship -- sometime back ‑‑ yielded a pregnancy that was terminated.

The man’s mother is said to have tried to separate her son from his cousin, but the man threatened to commit suicide should he sever ties with the young woman.

The tricenarian allegedly learnt that his ‘girlfriend’ had found a new love interest, consequently provoking anger in him.

Naivasha Sub-County Referral Hospital senior doctor Angeline Ithondeka said the two are in a stable condition.

Police will question them upon healing, said Naivasha police boss.
