A trader from Dagoreti recently found himself on the wrong side of the law after he was accused of not paying for chicken that he had obtained from a seller.

Godfrey Wachira is said to have obtained 120 chickens worth Ksh75,000 from complainant Mary Njeri and failed to pay as allegedly promised.

“Godfrey Wachira Mwangi: On the 6th October 2019, in Dagoreti Corner in Satelite area within Nairobi County, with intent to defraud, obtained from Mary Njeri Ragoi some of 75000 ksh by false pretending that he will pay for the 120 hens he had taken from Mary Njeri Ragoi,” the charge sheet read in part.

Court also heard that the accused person was well known to the complainant who is said to be running a poultry business in Dagoreti corner area.

Court was further told that on the material day, Wachira went to Mary’s place of work at about 10:00 am and managed to convince her to give him 120 chickens which were to be slaughtered and others to be sold. He allegedly promised her to send the money later since he allegedly did not have cash with him at the time.

The accused person however that day failed to honour his promise prompting Mary to call him severally in vain.

He thereafter allegedly kept giving false promises in a move that pushed her to report to police who arrested him.

The accused person denied accusations before Kibera Court Senior Resident magistrate Charles Mwaniki and was granted a bond of Ksh100,000 pending mention on November 2.
