Kenyan actor Wilfred Maina Olwenya will today, Saturday, July 16, be laid to rest at his grandfather's home in Gacharaigu-Kangema, Murang'a county.

Olwenya died on Monday, July 4, 2022.

Moments before his death, Olwenya reportedly collapsed and was pronounced dead at a city hospital where he was rushed for treatment.

Post-mortem results released by his family showed that he had succumbed to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy- a condition in which the heart muscle thickens and complicates the normal pumping of blood.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy often goes undiagnosed because many people with the disease have few if any symptoms.

For some people, HCM can cause shortness of breath, chest pain, or abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias).

Treatment may include surgery, an implantable device, or medications to slow or regulate the heart rate.

Friends and family converged at the Kenya National Theatre on Friday, July 15, 2022, to hold a vigil mass for the departed actor.

The mass featured performances, stories, tributes, music and watch scenes from the actor's notable works.

His other works include 'Taliya', 'Poacher', 'Pendo' and 'Stories of Our Lives'.

He also worked as a voice-over artist at Radio Africa.
