The National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, awarded former 2NK driver John Maina Muthoni for his courageous attempt to have intoxicated high school students arrested.

Muthoni was presented with a plaque and a certificate as well as a Christmas token to appreciate him for his intervention and inspiration to fellow drivers to join in in the fight against substance abuse.

NACADA CEO Victor Okioma further thanked John Muthoni for his commendable deed. He also appreciated the move by the Nyeri county administration to absorb Muthoni into the team of its drivers.

In a statement posted on his official social media accounts, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga confirmed that the ex-2NK Sacco driver is in the final stages of his appointment as a county employee.

"John Maina Muthoni will soon be joining the County Government of Nyeri once the requisite procedures and protocols that govern government employment are completed. He expressed his gratitude to my administration for the job opportunity and promised to be zealous and diligent in the execution of his duties," he posted.

Speaking after receiving the award, Muthoni cautioned those selling drugs and alcohol to students, saying enabling substance abuse amongst minors should be punished heavily.

He also urged fellow drivers and particularly PSV drivers to exercise caution on the roads during this festivities period so as to reduce road carnage.

NACADA’s CEO Okioma confirmed that they have joined hands with NTSA to also reduce road carnage and enforce responsible driving the festivities.
