Police in Nyandarua are yet to unravel the mystery surrounding the macabre murder of an elderly couple in South Kinangop.

Samuel Kamau, 70, and his wife Mary Wairimu, 68, were killed by unknown assailants on the night of Sunday, June 26, 2022.

Police said the couple sustained deep panga cuts with Kamau succumbing to his injuries in hospital.

According to their son Isaac Njuguna, who discovered the body of his mother lying in a pool of blood, the assailants stole nothing from the two.

Njuguna, who lives in the neighbouring Kamae village and visits his parents every Sunday, said that he found his mother dead while his father was unconscious.

With the help of their neighbours, Njuguna rushed the old man to AIC Kijabe Hospital where he passed away while receiving treatment.

"I was shocked when I arrived and knocked on the door but no one answered. I pushed the door since it was not closed and I found them lying on the floor bleeding profusely," he narrated.

"I immediately raised an alarm and those who responded to my distress call helped be rush my father to Kijabe but he had already lost too much blood and hence succumbed."

Kamau's daughter Sarah Wangui said that the beastly incident shocked them and asked the police to bring the culprits to book.

"We are ready as a family to assist the police with everything they may need so as to get at the bottom of this issue. We are not taking this lightly," she said.

Wangui said when she arrived, she found her mother's body and saw a panga and pieces of wood suspected to have been used by the killers.

"The panga and those pieces of wood which appeared blunt were taken by the police as evidence," she added.

Residents decry insecurity in Nyandarua

A resident Simon Mwaniki said cases of insecurity have been on the rise in the area in the recent past. He asked the police to beef up patrols during the day and at night.

South Kinangop police commander  Francis Mwangi confirmed the incident saying that no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

However, he said that they have launched investigations into the murder.

He said detectives are collecting evidence that will help them establish the motive of the attack.

However, impeccable sources told K24 Digital that the couple might have been killed over a property dispute pitting them against a next of kin.

The body of Wairimu is lying at Naivasha hospital mortuary while that of her husband was moved to Kijabe hospital pending autopsy.
