Registration of new members from Kiambu County by Usawa Kwa Wote party, associated with Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wairia, in Thika yesterday.

Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wairia’s Usawa Kwa Wote party has embarked on a youth recruitment drive targeting over four million members in preparation for next year’s general elections.

The exercise launched last week in Murang’a and extended to other regions in the country aims to recruit 2,000 volunteers who will be placed on stipends.

Party official James Mwangi said the volunteers will be paid based on the number of people that they have recruited.

Speaking in Thika where he oversaw the recruitment drive of youth from Kiambu County yesterday, Mwangi said the exercise will be coordinated by constituency managers who have since received registration materials for the exercise.

He said youth will be incorporated in the running of the party to give them a voice in leadership.

“This is the only party that is recruiting youth as volunteers for a pay. This is the empowerment that our youth need in leadership. Going forward, we target four million youth and we will be close to clinching the presidency,” he said.

He however said the party will also conduct recruitment drives for women and disability leagues to target a bigger population to be able to win the top seat.

The youth led by Martin Kimundia said they believed in Wairia’s empowerment programmes and will support him for the top seat.

They added that they are assured of getting tickets to contest in next year’s elections from the party as well as any other support that they will need.

Usawa Kwa Wote is among the more than 10 political parties eying the Mt Kenya region’s estimated eight million votes.
