Just a day after Mwangi wa Iria's Usawa Kwa Wote party begun its mass membership registration, their roadshow truck has caught fire in Maragua constituency while on a mission to drum up more support.

It is said that the truck caught fire after developing a technical hitch from the onboard generator that was being used to power the public address equipment.

The truck that was on transit and in the caravan from Maragua town had only the DJ and the MC who were wooing people for membership registration.

No casualties were reported as the fire was put off before it could consume the whole truck by the party crew as well as the residents who rushed to the scene with water and managed to put off the fire.

According to party staffs who are not authorized to address media, the truck was then taken to the garage for repair as it will continue with its mission tomorrow.

"These are normal challenges. We will work under all conditions to attain our four million members target by December," the official said.

Top party officials were not reachable for a comment on the matter.

Governor Mwangi wa Iria yesterday begun the registration process at Mukuyu market where he asked residents to join the party so as to have a united Mt Kenya region.

"We need to form a strong party and table our presidential candidate, " Wa Iria said.

Wa Iria who gave out heifers to some of the lucky people after registering as members yesterday said that the membership registration process will be carried out country wide.
