Mutyambai promotes 61 top DCI officers

The Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has promoted 61 Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers to the rank of Superintendent of Police.

The promoted officers include head of Special Crimes Prevention Unit Pius Gitari, his deputy Bernard Gicheru, Kilimani DCI boss Fatuma Hadi Ali, deputy head of Flying Squad Jackson Owino, Banking Fraud's Tobias Abondo and Kirinyaga East DCIO Milicent Ochuka.

Also climbing the ranks are the director of personnel Simon Mwangi Wanderi from the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police to the rank of Commissioner of Police and acting Narok County Criminal Investigations Officer Ethaiba Mwenda from Superintendent to Senior Superintendent.

Anti-Narcotics

Other officers promoted are from DCI units, including the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit, Forensics and Anti-Narcotics.

Last week, 14 senior police officers, including Kenya Police College Commandant Japheth Koome were also promoted to the rank of Senior Assistant Inspector-General (SAIG).

The SAIG, a rank below the Deputy Insepctor-General (DIG), is the third senior most in the National Police Service.

The promotions, announced by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) affected 839 senior officers of the ranks between Superintendent of Police (SP) and Assistant Inspector-General (AIG).

The promotions came just few days after the NPSC and Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai transferred five senior officers from the service to the Public Service Commission.
