The Inspector-General (IG) of Police Hillary Mutyambai has announced that he will personally be hosting a live Twitter chat in a bid to bolster engagement with the public.
"There has been a clamor by the public to have a closer and keener engagement with the National Police Service. I have taken note of that and will be dedicating an hour every alternate Monday to engage with you personally on a live Twitter chat #EngageTheIG," said IG Mutyambai.
The police boss acknowledged that while there are proper channels for engaging his office, the digital chat will reinforce and bolster the existing traditional engagement structure.

"I will be open to suggestions from you and will also be taking note of issues that may need urgent attention from my office and from the public," said Mutyambai.
The first session will be held on Monday, June 22, with the hashtag #EngageTheIG from 11 am to noon.
The service has been undergoing a reformation over several years, changes that have seen it change its name from police force to police service.
Some of the changes that have been implemented include a deeper engagement with the public, greater scrutiny of police workings, and transparency as well holding officers to account for their action.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, some elements within the police service have been accused of using unnecessary and excessive force on members of public.
So far, at least two police officers have been charged with murder over the death of civilians during enforcement of the national curfew.
However, police have also received praise for executing their work diligently and professionally.
Many officers have been honoured for their bravery and acts of courage in face danger.
