Machakos Stadium has been converted into a Covid-19 hospital for mass testing and isolation, Governor Alfred Mutua announced on Monday.

Governor Mutua said that the county set up the Covid-19 centre in the stadium to prevent the spreading of infections in local hospitals where patients are likely to be quarantined.

“As we embark on preparing for any rise in the number of Covid-19 infections, the Machakos Government has converted Machakos Stadium into a health facility, said Dr. Mutua.

The governor said that Machakos Level V Hospital is only 200m from the stadium hence any medications or health workers required to treat patients can be dispatched in a timely manner.

He said that the county has put 1,000 beds in the new isolation centre.

During his daily Covid-19 briefing, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that Machakos County already has several cases.
