Mutua, Ahmednasir among Kenyans celebrating after Rosemary Odinga regains sight

KFCB boss Ezekiel Mutua, prominent lawyers Ahmednasir Abdullahi and Donald Kipkorir are among the Kenyans who have taken to micro-blogging site, Twitter, to celebrate the news that Rosemary Odinga has regained her sight after a spirited two-year battle.

Rosemary announced on Wednesday, December 25, that she was on the path to full recovery, and that her vision is much-improved now.

The ODM leader’s daughter made the announcement at St. Peter's ACK church in Bondo, Siaya County, on Wednesday during Christmas service.

Her father, Raila Odinga -- who was present in church -- recounted how his family took Rosemary to different hospitals across the world in a bid to restore her sight.

“We were almost giving up after visiting many hospitals, including those in Germany, China and South Africa, without success. However, when we took her to India, she was healed,” said Odinga.

"Doctors in South Africa had told us that there was no possibility she would regain her sight. However, a friend introduced us to a doctor in India who used herbal medicine to help her recover," said Odinga.

The news sparked celebrations offline and online, with Kenyans taking to social media to celebrate Rosemary’s recovery.

Film board CEO, Dr Ezekiel Mutua, said on Twitter: “The best news I have received this Christmas is about Rosemary Odinga regaining her sight. It just warms my heart to imagine how the joy of seeing again after almost two years of blindness. I rejoice with Rosemary and the Odinga family for this great miracle. Thank you Lord!”

Laywer Donald Kipkorir said: “Dearest Rosemary Odinga ... In February when we met, I asked you to let Jesus send you the Pool of Siloam… I’m truly humbled you went... The Lord God we worship is a true Living God... Give thanks to Thee… You are our princess.”

KTN political show host, Tony Gachoka, said: “Merry Christmas, I just spoke with my sister Rosemary Odinga we had a hearty laugh, it’s just amazing. Am filled with joy and mountains of happiness. To her family ‘where there is great love there are always miracles’. Be blessed!”

Prominent city lawyer, Ahmednasir Abdullahi, said: “How sweet [to receive news of Rosemary Odinga’s recovery].”

Rosemary Odinga’s name trended at Positions Two and Three on Twitter on Thursday morning, with Kenyans celebrating the good news.

Ruth A. Otieno, whose Twitter handle is @RuthOtieno20, said: “The best Christmas news is Rosemary Odinga regaining her sight and becoming the hope of many other millions of people hopeful of one day regaining their sight.. If you close your eyes for a few minutes, you will realise what blind people go through daily.”
