The murder case where Kiambu politician Gladys Chania is accused of killing her husband took a new twist when one of the suspects became a prosecution witness.

John Mwangi who was the third suspect in the bizarre butchering of Rwanda based Kiambu businessman George Mwangi was arraigned in a Kiambu court with the prosecution saying that he had agreed to become a state witness.

John who was being held at Muthaiga police station for the past 10 days was presented before Kiambu Resident Magistrate Wilson Radin who released him.

The suspect was arrested three weeks ago at Karinga in Gatundu South, which brought the number of the arrested suspects in  connection with the cold blooded murder to three.

Kiambu politician who is also a relationship counselor Gladys Chania and the wife Mwangi and Morris Kamau were the first to be apprehended.

According to the office of the DCI, the third suspect became a person of interest in the murder case after he mysteriously went missing from the deceased's home where he had worked for close to 5 years.

Curious investigators questioned the coincidence that after the third accused went missing, the second accused Morris Mbugua was hired on October 8, 2022, by the main suspect Gladys Chania, a day before the death and disappearance of the deceased.

According to Chania, who police are treating as the prime suspect John Mwangi, allegedly failed to return home after she sent him to deposit some money on her Mpesa account.

A prima facie case was established against  Chania and Mbugua and the duo has since been charged at the Kiambu High Court with jointly planning and executing the murder.

This after a team of multi-agency sleuths conducted a thorough forensic documentation of the deceased’s house in Mang’u, detectives based at the Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau, Homicide department, Forensic Crime Scene and Photographic units concluded that George Mwangi was murdered in his matrimonial house  before his body was dumped at Kieni forest.

An assortment of blood stained metal rods, blood soaked bed sheets, stained curtains and clothing were part of the exhibits that were recovered in the house by the sleuths based at the DCI National Forensic Laboratory.

Chania is being remanded at the Langata Women Prison while her co-accused is a state guest at the Industrial area prison.

The direction of the case will be known on 29,11,2022 when Chania and her co-accused will back in court for the mention of their case.
