Panic gripped traders in Mukuyu market, Murang'a County after a gun was found dropped on the ground Wednesday morning.

A ceska pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition was discovered by traders who had gone to the market early in the morning.

According to some witnesses, the gun seems to have been dropped at night as it was stuck in the mud.

Peter Kamau who was among the first people to spot the gun alerted the police who dashed to the scene and collected it.

Kamau said they fear the gun could have been in the wrong hands or belongs to one of the police officers in the area, calling for thorough investigations.

Murang'a East OCPD William Kiambi said they have since launched investigations into the matter.

Kiambi said they have circulated the serial number of the gun in the security network to help trace the owner.

He however said there is no cause for alarm, urging the residents to remain calm as the investigations continue.

"People should not panic over this, but we are urging anyone who could be having information to liaise with us to make our work easier," the OCDP said.
