Murang’a: High School teacher excuses himself from family dinner table, hangs self in bedroom

Residents of Maragi village in Kiharu Murang'a were left in shock after a 45- year-old man committed suicide on Wednesday evening.

Samuel Kinugo Mugo a teacher at Kimathi Secondary school is said to have hanged himself in his bedroom minutes after arriving home.

His family says the deceased came back as usual and as they were having supper, he excused himself and went to the bedroom.

According to the deceased's wife, her husband took more time in the bedroom than expected, prompting her to go check on him.

However, after calling his name several times, she noticed there was no response, sparking anxiety.

This led to the wife peeping through the ventilation above the door only to see a rope dangling from the top, but was unable to get hold of the rope due to the weight of the body.

She quickly raised an alarm, alerting the immediate neighbours, who dashed to the scene and broke into the room only to find a lifeless body.

The matter was immediately reported to the police, who moved the body to Murang'a county morgue, awaiting a postmortem.

The residents said the incident has left them in utter shock, as the man had not shown any signs of distress.

Peter Karanja, a resident from the area urged his fellow community members to come out and seek help in case of any distressing issues that may be affecting them.

"We kindly plead with anyone who has issues bothering them to come out and seek assistance rather than taking away their precious lives," Peter said.
