A Member of Parliament was among the 54 passengers who were aboard a Lamu-bound Silverstone plane that crashed at a Nairobi game park near Wilson Airport shortly after take-off.

A well-placed source at Silverstone told K24 Digital that the MP was headed to Malindi.

For ethical reasons, we won’t publish details revealing the identity of the legislator.

One of the 54 passengers, who spoke to K24 Digital on phone Friday morning, said the plane crashed two minutes after take-off.

“Several people sustained minor injuries,” said the passenger, adding: “Emergency response by the fire-fighting team was quick.”

A communications representative from Silverstone told K24 Digital on phone that one of the plane’s engines failed, resulting in the accident.

We understand that the aircraft, Fokker F50 of registration 5Y-IZO, has operated from Wilson Airport beginning April 2018.

The Kenya Red Cross tweeted, saying the plane “developed a technical glitch while taking off”.

No passenger died in the accident.
