A Mombasa court has heard that Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa was directly involved in the murder of Michael Ngumbao.

This is after the first prosecution witness Alfred Jola Kahindi, in his sworn testimony, revealed that he heard Jumwa shouting at uniformed police officers that they had failed to execute her orders to kill the deceased during the Ganda Ward by-election and that she had gone to accomplish the orders by herself.

"I heard her issue orders by shouting to police officers that they had failed to deliver and she was personally at the scene to finish up the work, which was to kill the deceased," he said.

The witness made the statement during Jumwa's trial which kicked off on Monday, April 4 where she is facing murder charges alongside her aide Godfrey Otieno. The two are accused of murdering Michael Ngumbao - the uncle of Ganda MCA Reuben Katana - on October 15, 2019.

In his testimony, Kahindi told High Court Judge Anne Onginjo that Jumwa alongside her two bodyguards stormed into Michael's homestead before an altercation ensured which led to the shooting incident.

He further revealed it is during this confrontation that the lawmaker started shouting at the police officer inquiring why they failed to execute her orders to kill the homeowner.

“Following the fracas and chaos with stones being hurled everywhere, and bullets renting the air I decided to lie on my stomach. After a few minutes, the calm restored and when I raised my head, I saw the deceased lying next to me with bullet wounds on the back of his left shoulder and another one on his chest," Kahindi said.

During cross-examination by Jumwa's lawyers, Kahindi, however, failed to inform the court that he saw Jumwa and her bodyguard directly involved in the killing.

The case will proceed on Tuesday, April 5 when four other witnesses are expected to testify.
