A section of the Nairobi-Embu highway has become the most dangerous road in Kirinyaga county after several tragic accidents occurred this week.
The recent accident happened in the evening of Thursday, July 28, where at least 11 people were seriously injured after an ambulance collided head on with a PSV vehicle at Kathoge area.
Confirming the incident, Kirinyaga East Deputy County Police Commander Patrick Nyaanga said the ambulance was heading towards Kerugoya Level 4 Hospital while the PSV vehicle was travelling towards Embu from Nairobi.

“The PSV vehicle had nine passengers and was heading to Embu County,” Nyaanga told K24 Digital in a phone interview.
According to witnesses, the injured were rushed to Embu Level 5 hospital where they were admitted for .
“The ambulance had a driver and an elderly woman but we did not immediately establish whether there was a medic,” a witness said
However, the Good Samaritan who took the injured to hospital claimed to have received a dress down from medics who demanded to know why he settled for Embu Level 5 hospital over Kirinyaga County Level 4 hospital.
“The staff even had the audacity to ask me to go add get some painkillers for the patients but I reminded them that I am only a Good Samaritan who decided to lend a hand,” he said adding that he managed to rush four people to the hospital.
Residents said that Yesterday’s accident is not an isolated incident as at least 5 accidents have happened this week on the section from Samson corner all the way to PI on the Embu-Kirinyaga Counties boundary.
Prior to the accident involving a Matatu and an ambulance, a bodaboda rider had died Yesterday Morning after being hit by another vehicle on the same highway.
“This road has become very dangerous. People have lost lives and others have been maimed,” said Michael Comba a resident.
Bodaboda operators are the main victims who get involved in accidents as they are mostly knocked of the road by vehicles transporting Miraa from Meru to Nairobi.
Residents along the highway which marks the boundary between Gichugu and Mwea Constituencies point out that Miraa Vehicles are always driven carelessly without minding other road users.
“The Government has severally promised to ensure sanity on the road but we are yet to witness any change,” Comba said.
The residents now want the government to move in with speed and install more bumps in all the black spots in order to save lives.
