It’s alleged that, on April 28, 2021 at river road in Nairobi, Jackline Wangui Wanjiku stole a mobile phone (Infinix Hot 10) valued at approximately Sh11,499 from one Stephen Gacheru Ndegwa.

According to court documents, the complainant, 31, traveled from Nyahururu to Nairobi to meet his friend Jackline. After arriving in the city, they booked a room at Somma Guest House where they drunk and spent the night.

When the complainant woke up on April 29, his girlfriend had left. Upon searching, he found out that his mobile phone was also missing. He then reported the matter to Central Police station.

According to Jackline, who is a mother of one, and who works around Nairobi’s Latema Road, on April 28 at 2pm, Gacheru, who was accompanied by his male friend, invited her for drinks around Bus Station. They drunk until 7pm when they decided to go to a nearby lodging to spend the night.

She claimed she asked him about a debt and the complainant told her she can keep his phone until he pays her. At around 3am in the morning she left the Guest House and told her boyfriend that she was leaving with the phone.

The accused pleaded not guilty before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi and told the court that the complainant asked her to keep the phone until Friday.
