A pastor has been charged for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old minor inside a church in Mombasa.

Robert Jefwa Kalama, 40, a pastor at New Life Prayer Centre and Church which is headed by embattled preacher pastor Ezekiel Odero, pleaded not guilty to charges of defilement when he appeared before Mombasa senior resident magistrate Rita Orora.

He was further slapped with a second count of committing an indecent act with a child.

The court heard that Kalama repeatedly defiled the minor on diverse dates between 2021 and January 2023 at Jomvu within Mombasa County.

The suspect is alleged to have coerced the minor to commit the alleged offence after she went to a weekday church service.

The court further heard that the suspect defiled the minor in his house and inside an abandoned matatu and later threatened her with dire consequences should she reveal the defilement ordeals to anyone.

However, the girl’s parents were alerted by a congregant, who noticed unusual spotting on her dress

Upon interrogation, the girl made everything bare leading to the arrest and prosecution of the accused person.

The suspect was released on a bond of Ksh200,000 and one similar surety.

The matter will be mentioned on June 6 for pretrial purposes.
