Mombasa County Police Commander, Stephen Matu has come to the rescue of a top candidate in the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination at Gona Primary School in Kwale county.

Matu paid for Mwarusi Dzames' personal requirements, uniform, pocket money, and her fare after he learned of the girl's plight on social media.

Dzame had scored 374 marks out of the possible 500 and was yet to report to Form One at Nakuru Girls High School due to financial constraints.

Matu said that he was touched by Dzame's story, and felt the urge to sponsor the girl throughout her secondary education.

The police boss noted that within a span of two days he, alongside a few well-wishers had managed to raise Ksh28,000 for the girl.

"Her story touched me and l led the initiative in a security group that I'm a member. We came up with proposals on how we could sponsor her and this way we managed to raise the amount in two days.

"l further called the school management to inform them that I will take care of all her personal needs for the next four years," Matu said.

Dzame broke down in tears and thanked everyone who had come to her aid. She has since reported to the school after Kwale County Government through the department of education further paid her school fees amounting to Ksh22,500.
