Modern Coast Express Limited says it will refund its customers whose bus-fare receipts were revoked after the company’s 88 buses were grounded by NTSA over alleged poor road safety record.

In a statement posted on the company’s official Facebook page on Thursday, December 12, Modern Coast said it will issue the refunds beginning Monday, December 16.

“For those who had already booked to travel with us, we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and a refund of the same will be initiated from Monday, December 16, 2019,” said Modern Coast Express Limited.

K24 Digital understands that some travellers, who had booked the bus company’s services in Eldoret and Mombasa stations, were refunded their bus-fare on Thursday, December 12.

The long-distance transporter’s operating license was withdrawn by NTSA on Thursday, December 12, after two of the firm’s buses collided head-on at Kiongwani, Makueni County on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway. Seven travellers were killed, and at least 60 others injured in the grisly crash.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the passengers, our staff members and their families involved in this tragedy,” said Modern Coast.
