A bodyguard attached to Meru County Speaker Joseph Kaberia was shot dead in Kamiti Corner yesterday morning.

Police headquarters said Constable Samuel Munga was shot in the chest and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Ruaraka Neema Hospital.

Detectives have arrested the Speaker’s driver, Andrew Nabea,  a licensed firearm holder who also sustained a gunshot wound on his left leg, for questioning.

His gun has also been confiscated and will today be subjected to ballistic examination. Residents said they heard an argument before gunshots were fired.

Nairobi County police commander Philip Ndolo said the driver fired around 20 rounds of ammunition and all the spent cartridges were recovered at the scene.
