Interior minister Fred Matiang’i has dismissed a fabricated Gazette notice circulating on social media claiming that he has gazetted Monday, October 14, as a public holiday to celebrate legendary athlete Eliud Kipchoge’s unprecedented success in Vienna, Austria on Saturday.

Kipchoge became the first athlete to cover 42 kilometers in under two hours, clocking 1 hour, 59 minutes and 40 seconds.

And, typical of a section of Kenyans online, one photo-shopped a Gazette notice, and alleged that the Interior CS had okayed calls for Kenyans to celebrate Kipchoge on Monday, and, therefore, keep away from work.

But, the minister, has now termed the circular as fabricated.

Taking to his official Twitter page (@FredMatiangi) on Saturday afternoon, Matiang’i said: “NOTICE TO ALL KENYANS. The notice attached is FAKE. Kindly ignore.”
