Matiang’i declares August 9 public holiday

Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang'i has declared Tuesday, August 9 a public holiday to allow Kenyans to participate in the general election.

In a gazette notice dated July 29, Matiang'i said: "It is notified for information to the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government, pursuant to and in the exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (4) of the Public Holidays Act, read together with Articles 101 (1), 177 (1) (a) and 180 (1) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 declares Tuesday a public holiday."

Kenyans will go to the polls to elect their next President, Governors, Members of Parliament, Senators, Woman Representatives, and Members of the County Assembly.

Some 22,120,458 Kenyans will cast their votes in  46,232 polling stations countrywide.
