A city-based tout who is attached to Indimanje Matatu Sacco which ply the Hillock- Muthurwa route was on Sunday afternoon found dead inside a guest room which he was sharing with a man who sells avocados.

According to the police, Benard Mwendwa alias Swaleh, 30, who has been a regular customer at the guest house which is based in Mukuru slum, shared the room with a fellow man identified as Mwala.

Speaking to K24 Digital on Monday morning, Makadara police boss Timon Odingo said that the deceased had visible injuries and a manhunt for Mwala had been launched.

“Investigations into the matter have kicked off and the suspect who is still at large will be nabbed soon to shed more light into the incident,” Odingo said.

He further said that the deceased arrived at the lodging on Saturday, August 28, at around 9 pm and booked a room only to be found dead on Sunday afternoon.

However, Mwendwa’s family said that they did not believe the version of the lodging attendant asking the police to further look into the matter.

Beatrice Musyoka who is an elder sister to the deceased said that her brother was injured in the chest and that part of his stomach had visible injuries.

“Blood was also oozing from his mouth and there is no way the attendants can say that my brother arrived there complaining that he was unwell,” she said, adding that Mwala could have noticed he was dead and informed them.

In their statement to the police through Mustapha Joel who was on duty over the weekend, the deceased had arrived a few minutes to 9 pm and informed him that he was unwell.

Mwendwa then asked for water and took some tablets before he retired to bed.

The following morning, the man who shared the room with Mwendwa left the lodging without giving any information.
