A First-Year student of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) is fighting for her life in hospital after suffering complications following an abortion.

The student, who was taken to Kakamega County General Teaching and Referral Hospital, had allegedly aborted a seven-month old pregnancy on Tuesday, March 23.

The male foetus was found in a pit latrine in Lurambi located on the outskirts of Kakamega Town.

According to witnesses, Samuel Luvembe and Naomi Gimoi, one of MMUST students, who had gone to the toilet, spotted the foetus in the pit latrine.

Suspecting that their college-mate, 20, had induced the abortion, the learners went to the First-Year student’s room, and found her bleeding profusely from her private parts.

The students, thereafter, rushed their college-mate to Kakamega Hospital, where she continues to receive treatment.

The patient is in a stable condition, police said.

Neighbours removed the dead foetus from the pit latrine, and handed it over to police.
