A war of words has ensued between Ministry of Interior PS Dr Karanja Kibicho and Kirinyaga County Governor Ann Waiguru over Mashujaa Day invitation cards to be used to access Wang'uru Stadium on Wednesday this week, during the national celebrations expected to be held in Kirinyaga county.

The Governor, in a local daily, had expressed concern over the few numbers of entry cards that the county government had received ahead of the celebrations.

She noted that she is not comfortable with the low figure awarded to her government given the fact that her county is the host.

"Out of the 3,000 people who will be in there, I have received only 150 cards for the Executive and the county assembly, that makes me uncomfortable."

She added that her government has been left out of the preparations.

"I have been sidelined from Mashujaa Day Celebrations preparations, I absolutely have no say," Waiguru told a local daily in an exclusive interview.

However, the Interior PS has refuted the claims made by Governor Waiguru saying that the County Government has been fully involved in the preparations of the National Celebrations.

Dr Kibicho noted that Governor Waiguru has attended several meetings which have been held by the committee every week since the preparations began.

He said all the decisions have been made by the National Celebrations Committee which is a 100 member committee.

"The National celebrations committee comprises of both the national government and the County Government. In fact, she has attended several meetings in the past and sometimes she has been sending a representative," Kibicho said adding that the county government has received at least 300 invitation cards.

He also said that the invites have been made through the local administration.

"We have used both leaders as well as local administration to mobilize residents and every Sub location will be represented," Kibicho who is also the National Celebrations committee told the Media.

The number of attendees has been drastically reduced by the ministry of health as a way of curbing the spread of Covid 19 as only 3000 people will be allowed into the Stadium.

"Out of the 3000 people who will attend the Wednesday's event, 2000 people will be from Kirinyaga county," Kibicho said.

He further noted that among the 1000 people, will include international and national dignitaries.
