The man whose son was captured on video driving a Toyota Prado within Gatanga Constituency has been arraigned in court and charged.

Mr Ayub Kinyanjui appeared before Kandara Law Courts on Tuesday morning where he was slapped with a Ksh20,00 fine or serve a jail term of three months.

He pleaded guilty to the charge before Kandara Resident Magistrate Margaret Kinyanjui of permitting a person who is not a holder of a driving license to drive a vehicle.

In mitigation, Kinyanjui told the court that he had left the son unmanned in the vehicle at a carwash near his home area.

This is after he was nabbed by detectives on Monday June 14.

The minor, 7, was over the weekend captured in a video that has seen fine viral driving the flash car. He did not, however, get involved in an accident.

In a police statement seen by K24 Digital the operation to nab the man was led by detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

“He is the owner of the said motor vehicle and father to the minor who is aged seven years old,” part of the statement filed at Kirwara police station read in part.

Police said that the father was to be charged for the offence of permitting a person who is not a holder of a valid driving license to drive a motor vehicle.

While driving, the minor was cheered by members of the public for how well he was moving the vehicle.

The Kenyan law does not allow minors to drive vehicles as licenses are only issued to adults.
