Man who ‘mistakenly’ shot lady on suspicion she was killer cop Caroline Kangogo is charged with attempted murder

Ken Muyundo, a renowned businessman in Kitale has been arraigned in Kitale Law court and charged with attempted murder and unlawfully wounding Phanice Chemutai Juma on July 8, 2021 night at Kiminini market within Trans Nzoia County.

Appearing before Kitale Chief Magistrate Julius Ngarngar, Ken Muyundo pleaded not guilty of the offences and was released on ksh200,000 cash bail or a surety of ksh500,000.

Muyundo is represented by lawyer Cliff Ombeta who said they are open to exploring other alternatives of dispute resolution.

"Our client is still sick, he pleaded not guilty and after getting court's directives, we are ready to explore any available alternative that will guarantee justice. Out of court settlement is also an option," Ombeta said.

The case is set to be mentioned on July 28, 2021 for further directions.

Ken Muyundo a businessman in the hospitality industry shot and injured Chemutai on the abdomen on the fateful night.

Yesterday, Chemutai's mother Hellen Boiyo and other family members called for speedy investigations into the matter. "Chemutai my daughter is very innocent. We don't know why Ken shot her and we are worried about her safety after she is discharged," Hellen said.

Chemutai is still admitted at Kitale County Referral Hospital.
