A former Kenya Defence Forces officer (KDF) has been arrested alongside his girlfriend for the murder of a 26-year-old college student who met his death at a Kitengela bar.
39-year-old Nicholas Mwaniki and his girlfriend Farida Osman ,24, were arrested in their hideout in Kitui county following the gruesome murder of Jibrir Mohammed in Kitengela.
According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, the duo had managed to flee Kitengela following the killing of Mohammed in a suspected love triangle.
Investigations indicate that Osman had been employed by Mwaniki as a bar maid in Mwaniki's pub where Mohammed was allegedly killed after being lured to his death by Osman.
"Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had a love affair with Osman. The bar owner was also in a relationship with her and on several occasions, they had fought with the deceased over the woman. Three days ago, Mohammed was invited over for a drink and Mwaniki stormed into the pub and stabbed him to death following a fight," part of the police cover report reads.
It has further emerged that following the gruesome murder, Mwaniki ordered Osman to clean the deceased's blood to cover up the crime scene before they fled to an unknown location.
However detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who had been dispatched from Kitengela managed to trail the suspects from their first hideout in Machakos before they moved to Kitui en-route Somalia.
"The following prime suspects for the murder of Mohammed were traced through the combined efforts of DCI officers from Kitengela at club Zero 15 in Kitui town on their way to Somalia," part of the police report reads.
The two suspects have since been ferried to Kitengela awaiting to face murder charges.
"The suspects have been placed in custody awaiting to be charged for the offence of murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the penal code," the report further revealed.
