Police in Nambale, Busia County, on Tuesday arrested the man who bit off his wife Jackline Kerubo’s lower lip and left ear following a domestic dispute.

In an exclusive interview with K24 Digital, Nambale OCPD Robert Ndambiri said Pascal Omusungu, 51, was arrested at St Mary's area while harvesting sugarcane.

"The suspect is currently being held at Nambale police station cells and he will be arraigned before Busia court tomorrow (July 17)," said Ndambiri.

Ndambiri said doctors at Nambale Health Centre were unable to stitch parts bitten off by the husband adding that Kerubo, 39, may remain with the permanent scars forever unless she seeks further medication.

The police boss said the wife was reluctant to record a statement fearing that the husband might be jailed once he appears in court.

On her part, Kerubo revealed that a quarrel ensued between her and the husband who had cautioned her not to share their green vegetables with a neighbor.

"I shared the vegetable with my neighbor and he had warned me not to do so. I was saved by my eight-year old boy who took a spade and hit his father who was strangling me," Kerubo said adding that she was taken to hospital while unconscious.

Busia residents condemned the incident and urged the police to ensure he woman gets justice.

"We want legal action to be taken against the husband so that the woman can get justice for losing her lower lip and left ear," said Mary Awinja, a trader at Busia market.
