Vincent Musila is a lucky man after he was rescued after spending three nights and days marooned in a flooded river amid heavy rains.

The man was airlifted by a police chopper on Sunday evening from the flooded River Athi in Kiambu County as relieved villagers cheered on.

Musila, a fisherman, had gone to lay his fishnets on a section of the river using his canoe that fateful evening around 9 pm.

However, as the night progressed the river began to swell and even swept his canoe as he sought refuge in an island within the river.

He spent the chilly night at the spot fearing for the worst as heavy rains pounded the area on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Area leaders including Thika Town MP Patrick Wainaina, acting Kiambu Governor James Nyoro and Ngoliba ard MCA Joachim Njama intervened and contacted the Interior ministry who sent a chopper to scene.
