Man ties son to tree, assaults him for allegedly stealing Ksh40

A 36-year-old man from Rachuonyo East sub-county has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his 7-year-old son reportedly for stealing ksh40.

The man identified as Jeremiah Ndiga, a resident of Kitare village in Kasewe A Sub Location allegedly tied his son to a tree within the homestead before proceeding to beat the child with a piece of wood inflicting serious injuries on the boy.

The incident is said to have happened on Sunday.

While confirming the incident, the area Assistant Chief Dickson Samba said the child was rescued by neighbours who responded to his screams.

Samba also assured that the Child Protection Services were expected to take up the matter.

The minor who is a Grade One pupil at a primary school in the area is still receiving treatment at Okita Nursing Home in Kadongo Trading Centre after sustaining serious injuries on his back, legs and areas around his waist.

Ndiga was arrested at his home and is currently being detained at Centre Sori Police Post awaiting arraignment in court.

“Children’s rights must always be protected. Assaulting a child is not acceptable. The law must take its course in such unfortunate incidents," the Administrator added.
