Police in Kakamega have rescued a suspect who is said to be part of a syndicate that is supplying fake money to business premises within Ikonyero area, Kakamega County.

Ann Ndung'u, a shopkeeper in the area, says the suspect came to her shop a few minutes to seven o'clock when she was preparing to close her business

" The suspect came with a fake one-thousand-shilling note when I noticed that, I immediately called one of the customers who came and started beating up the suspect. He was rescued by police officers who were on patrol and taken to Kakamega police station,” Ann Ndung'u told K24 Digital.

Some of the shopkeepers who spoke to K24 Digital said they have incurred losses as a result of receiving fake notes.

It was a relief to them that the proverbial 40 days had reached on one of the suspects even as some of them warned the rest to prepare for the same fate.

"We call upon security agencies to beef up security since in the past three weeks three ladies were nabbed after their plans to con MPESA agent failed. They escaped death by a whisker as angry residents were baying for their blood,” one of them said.

OCPD Kakamega Central David Kabena has urged shopkeepers to be vigilant when dealing with customers especially at late hours.

He asked them to work with security officers in combating crime by providing information that will help them in arresting the suspects.
