Police in Nairobi have arrested a 21-year-old man accused of luring college girls with lucrative trips with the aim of stealing from them after they fall prey to his tricks.

It is alleged that Rashid Barasa Omari usually fishes his victims from the social media comments section.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Omari usually pitches camp at the comments section of Tour and Travel posts to hunt his next targets.

“Omari presents himself as a person capable of sponsoring his victims to the advertised destinations,” said the DCI on Twitter Saturday.

“Instead, he lures them to lodgings in Nairobi after sending them bus fare, then robs them of their valuables before disappearing to his hideout,” said the investigative agency.

Authorities say the suspect led detectives to his house Saturday, where items he stole from his victims were found. Some of the valuables recovered include: laptops, mobile phones and handbags belonging to different young women.

“We are appealing to young college students to be wary of such criminals preying on them on social networking sites,” advised the DCI.

Omari is being held at a Nairobi police station pending the completion of investigations.
