Police have launched a manhunt for an unknown assailant who stabbed a police officer at a bar in Kuria West, Migori county, on Sunday, January 1, 2023.

Kuria West Sub-County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said the officer in charge of Masaba Police Post was attacked after responding to a distress call from Apple Bar in Masaba Centre on Sunday night.

Apparently, revellers raised alarm after the suspect started brandishing a machete and a knife inside the pub.

Flees to darkness

Upon his arrival, the cop attempted to disarm the suspect but he let go of the panga and reached out for his knife and stabbed the officer in his right thigh before fleeing the scene.

Other revellers said the man was too drunk and could have harmed them were it not for the officer's intervention.

The injured officer was rushed to Masaba Medical Centre and was discharged after treatment.

Meanwhile, Kimaiyo has urged the suspect to surrender to the police, saying "he is known".
