A middle-aged man is nursing gunshot injuries in hospital after allegedly being shot by former Nyatike Member of Parliament Edick Omondi Anyanga.

A police report seen by K24 Digital indicates, that Justus Ochieng, 35, was shot by the politician shortly after leaving a local pub at Lwanda Konyango in the company of a friend on Saturday night.

Anyanga, who recently lost ODM nominations to Nyatike MP Tom Odege, is said to have confronted the two accusing the victim of frustrating his political bid.

He discharged his firearm and shot Justus on the right side of the hip.

“Mp candidate Nyatike constituency Edick Anyanga Omondi and his personnel started threatening Justus Ochieng while inside the vehicle claiming that he has been going against his political ambitions and in the process Omondi discharged his firearm shooting Justus on his right side of the hips and sustained injuries,” the police report read in part.

The victim was taken to Sori Lakeside Hospital where he is currently admitted in a stable condition.

Police have since confiscated Anyanga's pistol as investigations into the incident continue.

Nyatike residents decry harassment

Speaking to K24 Digital a resident from the area, who sought anonymity, said it is unfortunate that the former MP wants to use force to be elected when he already failed.

He called on the National Police Service to act swiftly and protect citizens from such intimidation.

“It is unfortunate that Hon Edick Anyanga, former MP Nyatike Constituency has resorted to shooting and maiming supporters of Hon Tom Odege. We wish to ask supporters to keep vigilant and the police delve into the matter…it is also instructive for NPS to move with speed and disarm the rogue former MP for the safety of our people,” he stated.
