Man on the run after hitting, killing cop at pub in Vihiga

Polices in Vihiga county have launched a manhunt for a 25-year-old man who allegedly assaulted a police officer at a local pub leading to his death.

Dancun Chesaya is said to have hit Constable Francis Kazungu with a chair on the head at a bar in Serem market where they were having drinks after a disagreement.

The officer attached to the Chesogon Anti-Stock Theft Unit succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital where he was rushed for treatment.

The deceased was on a 45-day annual leave and enjoying his drink at the pub with friends when the incident happened.

“While at Home-Joint pub within Serem Market, some people were drinking alcohol, and one person known to me as Dancun Chesaya, a male adult aged 25 took a chair and hit another male not known to me,” the owner of the joint Edith Adusa told the police.

Body lying at Vihiga mortuary

The body of the deceased was moved to Vihiga County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy as the search for the perpetrator intensifies.

In a separate incident in Kajiado county, a police officer attached to the Ngong Police station is currently admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after he attempted to take his own life.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, Constable Francis Ogutu was found lying on the floor by his neighbour after allegedly stabbing himself several times.

The neighbour, Susan Silonkoi, had responded to screams emanating from Ogutu's house.

"Susan Silonkoi heard screams from her neighbour's house and rushed to see what was happening only to find Constable Francis Ogutu lying on the floor having stabbed himself several times on the stomach, throat and his left hand using a kitchen knife," a police report seen by K24 Digital read in part.

The officer was rushed to Zamazam Private hospital where he received first aid before being rushed to KNH where he is admitted in a serious condition.

Police have launched investigations to establish the motive of Ogutu's suicide attempt.
