A 24-year-old man was admitted in critical condition at Tenwek Mission Hospital in Bomet County on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, after chopping off his genitals using a kitchen knife while drunk.

Linus Kiplangat Rono was rushed to the facility after being found writhing in pain by his mother.

According to Kiplabotwo chief Geoffrey Korir, the mother discovered that something was amiss when she saw the son limping around the homestead.

On inquiring, the chief said, the young man revealed to his mother what he had done to himself.

The village administrator said the mother alerted neighbours who came to the rescue of her son, rushing him to the hospital immediately.

The chief said efforts by locals who interrogated the young man on why he chopped off his manhood didn't bear any results as he was still high on drugs.

Korir revealed that the good samaritans rushed the lad to Longisa hospital where he received first aid before being referred to Tenwek hospital for specialised treatment.

Locals doubt if man will regain functional genitals

The village administrator said the doctors at Tenwek hospital are now trying to fix the body parts.

"We believe the doctors will be successful in fixing it back because this young man is not yet married", Korir said.

The chief further decried the rampant use of drugs among youth in the area saying the situation was worrying.

He said that as a result of the incident the local administration had decided to take the initiative to carry out sensitization to avert any other life-threatening incident.

Locals now fear the young unmarried man would not regain functional manhood because his severed genital was collected from a bush near his house after hours of frantic search.
