Police in Nairobi on Wednesday, September 8, arrested a middle-aged man who was impersonating a police officer.

The fake cop was arrested soon after being rescued from an angry mob that wanted to lynch him along the busy River Road.

The middle-aged man who was making rounds in busy streets that are located in downtown, in Nairobi was harassing members of the public and those he nabbed not wearing masks in the right way.

According to witnesses, the fake cop has been harassing innocent Kenyans demanding money.

Peter Karimi, a hawker in River Road said that the officer was cornered by the members who demanded to see his job identification card.

“The manner in which he was harassing members of the public saw them corner him and when asked to produce his job card, he failed to do so,” Karimi said.

Another local Jane Kerubo said that the police arrived in time and rescued the fake cop.

He had been harassing members of the public from the wee hours of the morning.

“I just heard a crowd demanding that he gives out his job card and that is how things became bad,” she said, adding that he was interrogated and it emerged that he was not an officer.

The two officers who whisked him using a motorbike were also alerted by concerned members of the public.

They were forced to shoot in the air in order to scare away the mob.

The incident comes barely a month after police officers raided various places within the CBD and nabbed commercial sex workers.

This is after business owners raised concerns over an increase in the number of twilight girls in the CBD.

The business owners said that the commercial workers were disturbing customers and blocking entrances into their businesses.
