Police officers in Juja, Kiambu County, have arrested a man suspected of stabbing his estranged wife 17 times to death.

Police believe that the 37-year-old Evans Kamau killed his 34-year-old wife Esther Nyaga on Sunday, August 8, before going missing. She died while being rushed to the hospital.

The incident happened at Everest Estate in Juja where Esther was living with her three children after separating with her husband two years ago following a series of domestic disputes.

Kamau is alleged to have accessed Esther’s house from the back entrance on Sunday night and disconnected power from the main switch.

He is said to have later entered the house, locked her wife in the bedroom and committed the heinous act before disappearing

Neighbours who accessed the scene of crime narrated the horrific ordeal of finding her bloody body lying inside her bedroom with stab wounds visible.

The brother to the deceased says the incident might have been triggered by a property division dispute. He revealed that the couple had a divorce case pending in court.

“We are speculating; we are not sure. Probably it is because of property that it happened,” the unidentified brother told local television.

Juja Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO), Richard Mwaura promised justice to the family and confirmed that the victim died of excessive bleeding.

Mwaura said the murder incident was premeditated.

“A postmortem examination was conducted on August 11. The preliminary report indicates that she died as a result of excessive bleeding that was occasioned by injuries she sustained,” Mwaura said.

Mwaura confirmed that the suspect is being held pending investigations after being permitted by the court.
