A fierce fire has gutted Makwa Boys High School in Gatundu North.

The school caught fire minutes to 6 pm today barely days after Kairi High School which is a few kilometres caught fire collapsing a whole dormitory.

According to area MCA Martin Githaiga, a dormitory hosting about 60 students was completely burnt down with the learners salvaging nothing from the facility.

While the cause of the fire remains unknown, the MCA who revealed that the institution has 750 students, suspected an arson case.

"The school dormitories are burning and one of them has collapsed. We are trying everything possible to salvage what we can," he told K24 Digital on phone.

Kiambu County fire officer Samuel Kahura said that his officers arrived at the scene when the raging fire had already spread.

He however said that they have enough machinery to put out the fierce inferno that has left a trail of losses especially personal items belonging to students.

"We are on the ground and doing everything we can to put out the fire," he said.
