Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) George Magoha has directed schools to resume on Thursday, August 18.

The CS had earlier set Monday, August 15 for schools to reopen.

"I hereby convey the Government’s decision on the suspension of the re-opening of all Basic Education institutions with effect from Monday, 15th August 2022 until Thursday 18th August 2022," he said in a statement on Saturday, August 13.

Magoha's clarification

Magoha said the delay in school reopening was occasioned by the ongoing tallying of presidential votes.

The IEBC has until Tuesday, August 16 to announce Kenya's new president-elect.
