Magoha orders immediate closure of schools

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) George Magoha has ordered schools to be closed on Tuesday, August 2 to give room for preparations for the August 9 general election.

In a statement on Monday, August 1, the CS said the schools will remain closed until August 10.

The CS said he made the decision after wide consultations.

"Following further consultations, I hereby convey the government's decision on the immediate closure of all basic education institutions with effect from Tuesday, August 2, 2022, until Wednesday, August 10, 2022, to ensure preparations and conduct of the upcoming elections are carried out seamlessly," the Magoha said in a statement.

Magoha's earlier announcement

The CS had earlier announced that schools would close on August 6.

"This communication supersedes any earlier communication on the closure of basic education institutions," he added.
