Kajiado roads and infrastructure County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Alex Kilowua has said the collapse of the Ksh100 million Kajiado bridge was caused by loose soil and natural calamity.

Paai bridge which was launched one week ago is said to have come tumbling down to the shock of residents on Thursday, February 24 in the morning hours.

"The bridge has not been swept away, it is the Central pier that has collapsed. The collapse has been caused by loose soil. The heavy flash floods are the act of God and nobody is to blame. We will do more reinforcement to ensure we do not leave anything to chance, " Kilowua said.

Kilowua further alleged that no money will be lost because the contractor is still within the defect liability period and he is yet to be paid 10percent of the cost of the bridge.

He said the contractor has already been directed to redo the affected section of the bridge to facilitate connectivity of the three sub-counties.

The bridge construction commenced in May 2020 and was commissioned on February 17, 2022.
