Peter Linturi, the father of Meru Senator Mithika Linturi, has died.

His death, which occurred on Monday evening, was revealed in divorce court proceedings by Marianne Kitany's lawyer, Danston Omari, who sought adjournment for his client to attend mourn and attend the burial.

"We are not ready to proceed reason being that the petitioner lost her father-in-law. My client is in a mourning mood and is set to go to Meru for burial," said Kitany's lawyer Danston Omari.

Kitany and Senator Linturi are locked in a bitter divorce case.

But Linturi's lawyer, Muthomi, claimed the death may have been caused by the shock from the acrimonious and public divorce involving his son and Kitany.

Despite the death, Linturi's lawyer said their client is willing to continue with the case.

"The petitioner cannot cry more than the respondent. Unfortunate as this may be, we should proceed. There are several properties that have been frozen," said Muthomi.
