Narok County Senator Ledama Ole Kina has been released on free bond following his arrest on Tuesday morning.

Mr. Kina is set to be arraigned in a Nairobi Court on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, when police will reveal the charge sheet.

Police pounced on the senator outside Royal Media Services premises in Nairobi over utterances he made before and during the Building Bridges Initiative rally in Narok County.

After his arrest, the vocal senator was taken to Kilimani Police Station in Nairobi.

Mr. Kina's comments about the election of non-locals in Maa speaking counties sparked a storm of criticism with many leaders accusing of fanning ethnic incitement.

But Maa leaders, led by Narok North MP Moitalel oke Kenta and Kajiado Central counterpart Elijah Memusi, have defended the senator, saying that Mr. Kina only expressed the view of the Maa people as resolved in a pre-BBI consultative meeting.
