Police have arrested a 15-year-old girl accused of killing her 19-year-old boyfriend at Southlands slum in Lang’ata, Nairobi.

Lang’ata OCPD Gregory Mutiso told K24 Digital Thursday that the suspect, a Class Six pupil, stabbed her boyfriend, a Form Two student, in the chest two times following a relationship wrangle.

The incident happened on Wednesday, September 23 a few minutes past 1pm at the home of the deceased’s parents.

According to the girl, she and her boyfriend argued over allegations that the 19-year-old was cheating on her with another teenage girl in the neighbourhood.

The suspect told police that during the argument, her boyfriend surged forward to hit her, forcing her to defend herself.

“It was at that point that she picked a kitchen knife and stabbed him two times in the chest, leaving him bleeding profusely,” said Mutiso, adding: “That is what she claims happened. However, we are still investigating the matter to ascertain the genesis of the fatal fight.”

After being attacked with the weapon, the 19-year-old boy screamed for help. Neighbours, who rushed to the scene, took the victim to St. Mary’s Mission Hospital in Lang’ata, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Neighbours said that the two teenagers had been in a relationship “for a while”, and that they (teenagers) often visited each other.

“The suspect was arrested Wednesday afternoon and taken to Lang’ata Police Station, where she is being held in lawful custody,” said Mutiso, adding: “We’ll take her to court tomorrow (Friday, September 25) and request for more time to detain her as we complete investigations into the boy’s death.”

The police boss says the girl will “most likely be charged with murder”.

"We have recovered the kitchen knife that was used in the killing."

The body of the suspect’s lover was taken to City Mortuary for postmortem, Mutiso said.

“The girl’s mother is, expectedly, worried about what would happen to her daughter once her prosecution kicks off. On the other hand, the boy’s parents are devastated by his death. We are expecting to probe the parents of either parties today (Thursday, September 24),” said the Lang’ata police chief.
