Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip has been set free by a Nanyuki court. The politician wa released on a Ksh500,000 cash bail or an alternative bond of Ksh1 million.

Senator was arrestedon Sunday, October 24 by the police after he was involved in a gun-shooting drama that left a lady injured.

Senator Anwar was released despite a plea by the lead investigative officer in the case to the court to detain him for a few more days to allow more investigations into the matter.

The court, however, ordered the controversial politician to report to the DCI after every two days for investigations.

“He will be required to present himself to detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after every two days,” Nanyuki Resident Magistrate said.

Loitiptip was, on Monday, October 23, arraigned in court by over the shooting incident that took place on Saturday night in a nightclub.

The senator is said to have shot Joy Makena, 32, in the leg at a close range after a disagreeement ensued between them.

The victim is currently at Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital nursing injuries on her right leg and above her ankle.

Anwar was arrested by the police after a tip-off from the members of the public who reported the shooting incident.

According to Senator Anwar, he shot the woman while he was acting on self-defense as the victim was amongst a gang that wanted to attack him.

Following the incident, the officers confisticated the firearm with 13 bullets from the senator's security detail for investigations.

"Scene was processed and two spent catridges of 9mm recovered. Firearm body no.C987345 make CZ with 13 rounds of ammunition recovered," police report said.
